this night, this mama + this birth were truly amazing. it was her second VBAC/home/water birth! Holly is one of those women who the Lord has blessed with the gift of bearing a child. I mean, he blesses LOTS of women with the opportunity and the ability to have a baby, but Holly seems to have the gift of giving birth. she is calm, she laughs, she carries on good conversations and makes jokes, she walks around giving hugs and acting like it's just another day spending time with family (with a quiet pause here and there to lean on her husband and breathe through a contraction)...all while she's at an 8.5, y'all. if you've given birth, especially naturally, you know what I'm talking about -- and this probably wasn't the case for you. it certainly wasn't for me! I was anything BUT calm, peaceful and quiet when I was that far along. I stopped making jokes at a 1. I stopped having cohesive conversations at a 4. but this isn't about me, it's about Holly and how I'm just really, really impressed with her. Holly handled this birth with grace, showed incredible strength and brought baby Sawyer into the world peacefully and rather quickly! don't get me wrong, it wasn't easy for her. she just did a really great job and handled the burden of childbirth beautifully. I'm so grateful I met Holly and had the honor of documenting the season of life soon before, during, and immediately after the birth of her third baby boy, Sawyer Wesley. way to go, Holly, you almost made me want to do it all again!
I also loved documenting another birth with my midwife, Donnellyn, (from All About Babies Birth Center in Argyle), as well as our good friend/doula Taylor (who can now rub your back, do hip squeezes AND encapsulate your placenta).
